SMALL WORKS BY JESSICA TORRANT
I created this series of Small Works especially for ArtGarageSale.com. I have always believed that art collecting should be an experience available to all and, throughout the years selling my art online and in public venues, I've strived to offer a wide price range for buyers of all budgets. I love that this site caters to people who appreciate original art, and want to take part in the exciting and rewarding experience of collecting art, but can only afford to spend so much. I too am a collector on a budget and I am certain I'll be participating in ArtGarageSale as a buyer as well as a seller.
The Small Works series is a simple, open concept that lends itself to evolution and growth as a body of work while maintaining certain consistencies that cater to you as the collector. The Small Works series runs in sets of four and are titled in numeric progression - SW#1, SW#2 and so on. Each set of four follows the same process of layers, textures and colors used. It is my natural process to work on multiple canvases at once and this technique of working on relatable sets really sharpens and fine tunes my painting. This works well for me as an artist. These studies are where I learn lessons, discover new approaches, and continue my education in paint and process. It is the experience of making these paintings that inform and inspire my larger works on canvas.
You'll notice my introductory sets 1 and 2 are a smaller size of 6" x 6". I've decided to go with a more user friendly 8" x 8" so that will be the set size from now on. This is now considered a standard size in the framing world and there are many options for affordable pre-made mats and frames. Please contact me if you'd like some suggestions with links - I have several. Of course custom framing is always an option if you prefer, but it's nice to know you could get an original work of art and frame for under $100.
