How do I get started on Art Garage Sale?

Welcome! The first step is registration. Just click the Register link at the top right of the site to get started. You need a valid email address. Sellers, you can create a separate name for Your Garage. If you want to be a seller, we also require that you have a valid credit card and a PayPal Business Account. Since Art Garage Sale is an e-commerce site, all buyers and sellers must be over the age of 18 (or have parental permission and supervision). Once you're registered, you also need to familiarize yourself with our rules in the Terms of Use and the Rules of Art Garage Sale.

Why can't I login?

You can't login if your account is not active. When you first registered with Art Garage Sale, we sent you a confirmation email. You need to click the link in that email to get your account activated. You might also be mistyping your password. Make sure CAPS LOCK is off. If you still can't login, follow the link on the login page to reset your password.

Where is my confirmation email? I don't think I got one!

Check your junk mail folder. It may have ended up in there. In extreme cases you might have to turn off SPAM filters.

I can't remember my password, what should I do?

If you cannot remember your password, just click on the Forgot your password link on the login page. Art Garage Sale will email a link . You can change your password back to something you can remember by going to: Your Garage> Account Info > Change Your Password.

If I forgot my email address, what can I do?

In this case, you'll need to email support@ArtGarageSale.com to request this, and we'll do it for you.

Can I close my account to start a new one?

We can close the account for you so that you can open a new one, but you will need to use a different email address and none of your information will be carried over. For security email addresses can't be reused once they are in our system. Please contact support@ArtGarageSale.com if you would like to close your account.

Can I have more than one account?

Yes, though we don't encourage it, and there are special rules for holding multiple accounts. Please see the RULES for more info.

How do I add a Bio

Login to Art Garage Sale and go to Your Art Garage Sale > Public Profile.

How long can my Bio be?

As long as you'd like it to be, but don’t get to carried away, most people have very short attention spans.

Can I use HTML formatting in my Bio?

We do not allow any user-created HTML formatting anywhere on the site. We have designed Art Garage Sale to provide a consistent visual experience.

Why should I add my location?

As a seller, you can enter your location in Your Garage > Edit Profile Adding your location is optional, but keep in mind that buyers like to know where an item will ship from when shopping.

Site Features

What are tags? How do they work?

Tags are keywords used to sort items on Art Garage Sale. A single tag can be comprised of multiple words, e.g. Bath and Beauty. You can have up to 14 tags per item. You can also use your own custom tags. Custom tags can help buyers who are using the search feature instead of browsing by category. Use only one word (pattern) or phrase (sterling silver) per tag box. You can have up to 14 tags per item. Look in your item description for good keywords. You may choose any tags that accurately describe your item. Don’t use tags that are related, but don’t actually describe this item. TAGGING RULES: Don't tag with potential uses for the item. eg. Don't use "stocking stuffer" or "gift" as tags. Do not tag a messenger bag with "backpack", even though you can wear it on your back. Don't tag a blank book with "poetry". Don't put multiple words in one tag box, unless they are a phrase. eg. Do tag with "sterling silver". Don't tag with "silver earrings", these should be two different tags. TAGGING HELPFUL HINTS:

What is it specifically? What type?

eg. hoop (for earrings), v-neck (for sweaters), long sleeve (shirt)

What is the main color?

eg. white, black, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple

What method or technique did you use to make it? Only relevant for some items.

eg. hammered (for metal jewelry), burned (for woodworking), appliqued, embroidered Imagery or motifs that are on the item. eg. owl, landscape, nature, marilyn monroe

What are mediums? How do they work?

Mediums are a special kind of single-word keywords. Instead of helping you understand what an item is used for, they help you figure out what it's made out of. You can click a material anywhere you see it to be taken to a list of all other items using the same material. You can list up to 13 materials per item. For example in a mixed media piece, it might be helpful for the buyer to know all the mediums used in the piece.

Feedback

How does the feedback system work?

You may leave a feedback rating of positive or negative, a textual comment for users whom you've been involved in a transaction with. Your feedback score is the cumulative total of all positives (+1) and negatives (-1) you receive. To leave feedback, login, go to Your Garage > Feedback, and you'll see all items awaiting your feedback there. Neutral feedback does not effect the user's rating number as it's neither positive or negative.

How do I leave feedback?

To leave feedback, login and go to Your Garage > Feedback. Then click the Items Awaiting Feedback tab, and you'll see everything there. Each feedback entry must be submitted separately.

How do I view feedback I've received and given?

Login and go to Your Garage > Feedback, and click the appropriate tabs on that page.

When should a buyer leave feedback?

Once they have received the item from the seller.

When should a seller leave feedback?

The seller can leave feedback as soon as they receive payment, or wait until they've confirmed that the buyer has received the item and is happy with the transaction.

What is Kiss and Make Up? How does it work? Possible?

This is a way for members to change negative feedback, if an issue has been resolved. Both parties must agree to change the feedback rating from negative to positive. The link for Kiss and Make Up only appears on negative feedback entries for parties involved in a specific transaction. Neutral feedback does not qualify for Kiss and Make Up.

Can I delete or edit feedback?

Feedback can only be changed by using our Kiss and Make Up feature. This feature only applies to negative feedback and requires both parties involved to agree to change the feedback to positive before anything gets changed.

I've left negative feedback by mistake. What do I do?

Click the Kiss and Make Up link below the negative feedback in Your Account > Feedback > Left for others.

I've left feedback for the wrong person. What do I do?

If it's totally misplaced, you can email support@ArtGarageSale.com for help.

I believe I've received unwarranted or malicious negative feedback. What do I do?

Please email support@ArtGarageSale.com for help.

How can someone with negative or neutral feedback still have a 100% positive rating?

Feedback ratings are rounded to the nearest whole number. For this reason, someone with an extraordinary amount of positive feedback and just a few negatives will show as a 100% score. Neutral feedback is truly neutral; it does not impact the percentage rating at all.

Art Garage Sale's rules are outlined in the Terms of Use (which is a legal agreement for using the site) and in the RULES of Art Garage Sale.

How do I report a violation of Art Garage Sale's rules?

You may send an email to abuse@ArtGarageSale.com. We take all such matters seriously and act on them promptly.

What if I see something that's not authentic or appropriate?

In the right-hand sidebar of every item page, there is a "Report this item to Art Garage Sale" link, which will send an email to us with the item # in it. (If the link doesn't work with your computer's settings, you can send a detailed email to flagged@ArtGarageSale.com. Please include a link to the item.) We appreciate your help with this!

What are the consequences for breaking Art Garage Sale's rules?

First and foremost, we try to work things out with users personally and privately. If this is not successful, Customer Support will issue an official warning letter. If the warning is not effective in curbing rule-breaking behavior, site abilities may be limited or an account may be terminated. If site abilities are limited, it will only effect the section of the site being abused. See the RULES of Art Garage Sale for specific consequences for site abuses.
